Buyer’s guide / Costs and budgeting

How much does a business website cost?

Budget for more than the build. Pages, text, images, features and responsibility after launch all affect the cost. Here are the main cost items and a first-year worksheet to help you request a clear quote and compare like for like.

What does a clearly scoped business website cost?

Nolera’s website package costs €29/month excluding VAT for 1–5 information pages. The initial build, individual design, mobile adaptation, standard hosting, SSL and standard contact functionality are included. This is a price for a defined delivery, not a standard price for every website.

A business presentation with services and contact is a different project from an online store or on-site booking. More content and custom features receive a separate quote. Ask for pricing against agreed pages, materials and features before comparing providers.

Start with what the website needs to do.

A website with a business introduction, a few services and contact is a different project from an online store or customer portal. Page count is only part of the scope. Writing, languages, materials, features and technical dependencies also need to be described.

Write a simple brief before asking for a price: who will use the site, which questions should it answer and what should visitors be able to do? Choose what is needed at launch. Put later ideas in a separate list so they do not blur the initial budget.

  • List the pages and the main task of each page.
  • Mark which text, images and graphic elements you already have.
  • Separate standard contact options from booking, payment and integrations.

Allow for both the build and the content.

Ask the provider to specify what design, page structure, mobile adaptation and the build include. Ask how the content will be produced too: will you supply finished text, will the agency edit your material, or write from an agreed brief? These involve different amounts of work.

Photography, translation and new graphic material may need separate budget rows. Check the number of revision rounds and who approves the facts. If you do some work yourself, list the tasks and set aside time. The work does not disappear simply because it is absent from the invoice.

Include hosting, the domain and external services.

Ask for a clear description of hosting, technical maintenance and what support covers if something stops working. Check domain and any business email costs too. They may come from different providers and should not be assumed to be included in the website price.

The Swedish Internet Foundation explains how an available .se or .nu domain is registered through a registrar. Ask for the actual terms and fees for your address. Record the registered holder, who handles renewal and what access you will have.

A link and an integration are different deliveries.

A button leading to your existing booking page does not require the same work as booking directly on the website. The same applies to standard contact compared with image attachments, automatic quote calculations or a connection to your CRM. Describe what visitors actually need to be able to do.

For each custom feature, ask about build costs, external fees, responsibility and what happens when the other system changes. Put features that can wait on a separate row. This makes it easier to order a useful first website and develop it when the need is clear.

Budget for the work after launch.

Decide who changes prices, opening hours, services and staff details. Technical maintenance and content work are different things. Recurring changes need their own agreement unless expressly included.

Separate the website itself from ongoing SEO, analysis and marketing. Google describes SEO as work that helps search engines understand content and people find the site, without guaranteeing indexing or a first-place ranking. Ask for specific tasks and follow-up when buying that help.

Complete your first-year budget.

Copy the rows below into your own document. Use amounts from an actual quote or the provider’s current terms. Write unknown where information is missing. Count an included cost once and mark it as included on other relevant rows.

Add one-off costs, twelve months of recurring fees and other work you know you will order. Then make a separate list of possible extras. Use the same VAT basis on every row and note which amounts still need confirmation.

  • Build and design: €____. Which pages and revisions are included?
  • Text, images and other materials: €____. Who does the work?
  • Hosting and technical maintenance: €____ per month or year.
  • Domain and any business email: €____ per year.
  • Booking, other services and integrations: €____. State the billing period.
  • Ordered content changes during the year: €____.
  • Total confirmed costs: €____. Outstanding questions: ____.
  • Separate ideas for later: ____.

A specific price: Nolera’s website package.

Nolera’s website package costs €29/month excluding VAT for 1–5 information pages, with no setup fee or minimum commitment. It includes the initial build, individual design, mobile adaptation, standard hosting, SSL, standard contact functionality and technical maintenance of the agreed delivery, plus one consolidated round of revisions before launch.

Twelve monthly payments total €348 excluding VAT if you use the service all year at the same price. Add domain fees, external services and separate work when applicable. Larger websites, e-commerce, booking systems and integrations receive a separate quote. Ongoing content work and new pages are agreed separately.

  • Example calculation, all amounts excluding VAT: a website package used for twelve months at the same monthly price.
  • Setup fee: €0. The initial build is included within the package scope.
  • Website package: €29 × 12 months = €348. Do not count the hosting and technical maintenance included in the package again.
  • Domain and any external services: enter your actual fees. They are unknown in this example.
  • Work outside the package: add the separately agreed amount if you order this work.
  • Known package cost: €348. The full annual budget can only be established once extras and external costs are clear.

Frequently asked questions

What should we send to get a useful quote?

Describe the business, the pages you need and what visitors should be able to do. Say which text and images you have, which systems you use and who will update the content. This lets the provider separate the build from material preparation, external fees and ongoing support.

How do we compare a monthly price with a one-off price?

Choose the same period and compare the same content and responsibilities. Include setup fees, monthly payments, external annual fees and known extra work. Blank items are unknown costs, not free services.

Is there a standard price for every business website?

A price becomes useful once the scope is defined. Ask for a quote for your pages, materials and features, then use the budget rows to understand the full delivery.

How can we keep the initial cost down?

Prioritise the pages and features customers need straight away. Gather existing materials, name an approver and keep later ideas outside the first order.

Is a budget the same as a quote?

No. The budget is your planning document. The provider needs to confirm scope, prices and terms in writing before you order.
